You will notice that my books are no longer available from Renebooks.
I thought long and hard on the matter.
If you check the Renaissance Ebooks thread at Absolute Write, you will find most of my reasons. I was not alone in making the decision to retrieve my book rights from them. Many authors had either not been paid at all or not been paid in a timely fashion. Books were not coming out on time for many of them.
I felt very responsible for the situation, because I had referred those authors to the company. Although I had been less severely affected by these things, I felt that I had to act in solidarity with them.
My personal experience was that Jean had neglected my books. In the past, Jean used to send out press releases and have special promotions that helped my books. She also had my novels uploaded to a broad number of online distributors. As my royalties took a nosedive, I investigated the situation. At a number of places, she had not been uploading the books on a regular basis. Her efforts were fragmentary. She also stopped promoting the books. No press releases (that I could locate) had been issued in over two years. Last year her royalties were three months late and often I did not get a sales report, although she is supposed to send them out monthly.
The Shadowed Princes had the wrong blurb on it, causing people to think it was Kady's Vengeance with a new cover. When Jean and I argued over it, she blamed me, despite my having sent the blurb, the manuscript, and the cover attached to the same email.
That's the tip of the iceberg. For more of what went on, visit my blog.
